Designing Connected Content - a 2019 update

With digital content published across more channels than ever before, how can you make yours easy to find, use, and share? Is your content ready for the next wave of content platforms and devices?

It has been almost 2 years since Carrie Hane published Designing Connected Content together with Mike Atherton.

In our recent member conference call, Carrie shared learnings from after the book went to print.

You can find the entire 29-minute video recording below, and here’s my key points from the call:

  • Aim for good enough. Perfection is your enemy

  • Start anywhere in the structured content stack

  • If you change the domain model it will ripple through. The domain model should be the most stable

  • Nobody reads the content strategy documents. She prefers to go along and document the decisions along the way

  • Content Operations is getting the people, processes and technology aligned. Makes you more efficient in production and effective in delivery

  • Content model accounts for 80-90% of your content. You also need to deal with the remaining content
